Among the essential points to be clarified at all costs, there is the central question: is there a market (a need) for the products or services that you want to offer? In fact, it seems that the inability to answer this question satisfactorily is one of the main reasons why start-ups do not take off (see this article for example). Either the need already exists, then you have to define it precisely, or it does not exist, and in this case, you must think carefully about either adapting your offer, or creating the need…

The associates

Also essential, do we have the right partners (if any)? It is always said that one should not do business with friends or family. This is partially true, simply because having a fight related to business could damage the existing relationship. So, you have to be careful not to get into trouble with your associates… one more thing you can’t predict in advance. It is however possible to limit the risk by asking yourself a few questions about this (these) person(s) whom you think you know:

1. Do you have the same goals and aspirations?
2. What is their moral? Yep, you better have the same.
3. How are they working? Does this suit you?
4. Are your conceptions of money compatible?

Beware if you do not know how to answer one of these questions, you may have surprises.

The entrepreneurial spirit

Before getting started, it is good to make sure that you have the entrepreneurial spirit. It is better to feel comfortable in this role, because otherwise anxiety will take over, which is not the goal. You have to be ready to go along your own path, while knowing how to surround yourself with the right people. You also need to know how to seize opportunities, understand if you are on the right track, and above all, not hesitate to pivot and adapt if this is not the case.
